FAQ
What are the check-in and check-out times? 🛎️
Check-in is any time after 3 PM. Check-out is by 11 AM sharp to allow cleaning for the next guest. We are flexible with check-in times depending on previous guests, but please inform us in advance.
What amenities are nearby? 🏪
In Kearney, you'll find a general store, LCBO, gas station, local bistros, laundromat, ice cream/french fry shack, library/town hall, and public docks. The Canoe Algonquin store on the way offers food and water toy rentals. Huntsville (30 min south) and Burks Falls (25 min north) have grocery stores, shops, and restaurants.
What should I know about the beach and lake? 🏖️
Enjoy our safe, sandy beach and canoe. Please return the canoe and paddles after use, use life jackets, and supervise kids carefully. Life jackets and paddles are stored in the shed behind the cottage. Please close umbrellas when not in use or overnight.
How do I handle garbage and recycling? ♻️
Use the provided clear white or blue see-through bags and sort garbage into household waste, cardboard/paper, plastic/glass, and cans/metal. Store full bags in the shed bins and take to the dump site at check-out. Do NOT leave food garbage outside (raccoons!). Dump site: 147 Kallio Road, $2 per bag fee, open Fri-Tue 2-5 PM. Alternatively, drop off at 147 King William St. Fri 9:30 AM-1:30 PM. More info here
Is the water safe to drink? 🚰
The kitchen faucet has a UV filtration system providing purified water via Skinny Tap. Bottled water is welcome if you prefer. You may use kitchen water for washing. Feel free to use provided spices, condiments, and coffee but please don’t take them home.
Are there any safety notes I should be aware of? ⚠️
The second flight of stairs has a low ceiling — watch your head. The cottage has high-speed WiFi; credentials are on a sticker near the bins. Please don’t move the armchair by the sliding door. Garbage bags, first aid kit, and sandwich bags are in the wood cabinet under the TV.
What about bedding and towels? 🛏️
Beds have queen comforters with covers. Please remove covers only if using your own linens. Bring your own linens, towels, and kitchen towels.
How do I use the BBQ? 🔥
Turn off the propane and cover the BBQ after use. One spare propane tank is in the shed; leave empty tanks on the deck for replacement.
Are there any restrictions on flushing? 🧻
Only flush provided toilet paper. Do NOT flush feminine products or other items. Toilet paper is supplied.
How do I use the TV? 📺
Use the Samsung remote power button to turn the TV on (do NOT use the cable box power button). Operate channels with the cable box remote.
Can I use the outdoor firepit? 🪵
Yes, of course!
